About Us
Our Story:
I have always tried to look at the bright side of every situation. Many of us were blessed with 2 hands, 2 feet, 2 legs, 2 arms, a fully functional brain and working limbs. Unfortunately, we were not all blessed like this. Many children are born with, or develop disabilities and are faced with an uphill, unfair battle their entire life. As someone who was born able-bodied, I realized it was time to make a difference. I began feeling guiltiness, questioning why I was so lucky to be fully healthy and not faced with this disadvantage.
As my search began, I was looking for a niche to be able to contribute. I learned one of the toughest challenges families and children with disabilities are faced with, is not having the proper medical supplies needed to function on a daily basis. It was mind boggling at first, not only are these children limited, but they are not even always provided the proper tools needed to succeed and live the best life they possibly can. I found it to be a huge negligence on the part of Health Insurance companies for deciding to deem certain items as convenience and luxuries.
Another challenge families with children with disabilities are faced with is “time”. The entire day goes to taking care of their child, that there is no time left to focus on their spouse, activities, or personal well being. This becomes extremely draining, unhealthy, and overwhelming. There are programs that provide housing, financial help, and schooling, but none that really provide home help, which equals time. Programs such as SSI, or IEP are options. However, they are extremely difficult to get approved for and the application process is an absolute bear! Only 20% of first time SSI applicants get approved and the rejection is heartbreaking.
I wanted to make an impact, and I knew providing caretakers to families with children with disabilities, would help free up time. Special needs caretakers are not cheap, so raising money would provide a huge benefit. Also providing children with supplies, and medical equipment that Health Insurance denied would help instantly.
My goal with Always Sunny foundation is to help make life easier for families with children with disabilities. Help to make the sun shine a little brighter in their lives. By providing special needs caretakers, and donating medical equipment to help with the challenges children face due to unfortunate circumstances.
